Celebrating the Reflective Conservatoire Conference

We've had some wonderful feedback on the Reflective Conservatoire Conference, personal thoughts about transformative experiences and powerful statements about the way in which this event is helping to drive renewal and innovation in specialist education in the performing arts. I'm thrilled ..... thrilled that it is helping individuals and the sector to move on, to respond to the changing demands of contemporary contexts and at the same time stay connected to the fundamental values and principles of the disciplines.

I am also thrilled that the conference has given the Guildhall School such great profile internationally. Tony Woodcock, President of the New England Conservatory in Boston, USA, has just written a blog for the Huffington Post. In it he describes the Guildhall as a "cauldron of cutting edge thinkers and practitioners", and reviews several of sessions from the conference. Reading this, I've been reminded again of the vibrant community that filled Milton Court for those days at the end of February, and how important it is to me personally and to the Guildhall as an institution to host the exchange, discussion and seeding of new work that has taken place. A big thank you to everyone who took part.

So why should you be interested in Learning in and through the Performing Arts?

The collaborative processes of the performing arts open a pandora's box of possibilities for artistic, personal and organizational development. They are subtle and multi-layered, embodied practices that can yield much more than what individuals bring to them, creatively and in terms of human exchange. My work is about continuing to develop these processes for the twenty-first century, so that artists can adapt to their changing contexts and enable their work to take root as creative entrepreneurs, and so that the processes of the arts can be shared and enhanced through exchange with other disciplines and across cultural contexts.
